Ash Community Speaker Series: Digital Democracy -- from HKS to Civic Tech Startup

Join us for a lunch conversation with Seeyew Mo 2018 HKS MC/MPA and Kathryn Peters MPP 2011 as they discuss the challenges and opportunities for students and alumni working to leverage their HKS experiences and delve into the civic tech world. We will also be joined by our newest cohort of Ash Center Technology and Democracy Fellows, who will introduce themselves and preview their research projects for the upcoming academic year. 

Kathryn Peters is a co-founder of Democracy Works. Her belief in better democracy has taken her from campaign organizing in rural Missouri to a master's in public policy at HKS to political rights monitoring in Afghanistan. Katy has also worked for the information management team for the United Nations Department of Safety and Security and the National Democratic Institute's Information and Communications Technology staff. In 2011, she was honored as one of Forbes magazine's '30 Under 30' in the field of law and policy.

Seeyew Mo is a social activist-entrepreneur with expert experience in the use of technology in grassroots organizing and political campaigning. In the past decade, Seeyew’s been a technologist in the high-tech industry in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is a strategically-minded technical leader who has developed pioneering products and services that have impacted millions of users. Most recently, he served on the Hillary Clinton Presidential Campaign as the Lead Android engineer. 

The Ash Community Speaker Series features discussions with students, faculty, fellows, and alumni whose research or other academic work is supported by the Ash Center. The series is a forum to discuss new ideas, innovative work, and ongoing projects that are related to the Ash Center's mission to make the world a better place by advancing excellence and innovation in governance and public policy through research, education, and public discussion.
