Fainsod Room, Littauer Building, 3rd Floor

Lynelle Briggs, Former Australian Public Service Commissioner

About the Seminar
On Friday, September 18th from 12-1 p.m. ET at the Fainsod Room, Littauer Building, 3rd Floor, the Ash Institute will host the event “Australian Public Service Reform Directions: An Address by Lynelle Briggs.” Ms. Briggs is the Chief Executive Officer of Medicare Australia and the former Australian Public Service Commissioner. Lunch will be served.

She will address the main themes of public sector reform that are emerging in Australia, which are similar to many issues emerging in the American context. They include issues around:

1. Designing our services to better meet citizen needs, including our capacity to engage with citizens, respond innovatively to their needs and help rebuild trust in government

2. Enhancing our strategic policy capability in what is becoming a hothouse environment, where it can be difficult to balance driving the long term reform agenda against the demands of the day

3. Ensuring a robust, strong accountability and ethical framework for our public services to operate in

4. Improving our performance, with a focus on how we do this through individual agency and system wide measures
