About the Seminar
General Craig McKinley, National Guard Bureau Chief; Retired Admiral Mary Landry, US Coast Guard; and Brigadier General Julie Bentz, National Security Council, discussed the military’s role in responding to disasters such as the U.S. Gulf oil spill and the Fukushima meltdown, as well as other recent events. Topics include the challenges faced and lessons learned, as well as how the military is preparing for future disasters. The panel was moderated by Herman “Dutch” Leonard, Harvard Kennedy School Professor of Public Policy.
