POSTPONED -- Movie Screening: Háwar

Date:

Wednesday, September 13, 2017, 6:00pm to 8:30pm

Location:

Harvard Kennedy School, Belfer Building, Starr Auditorium (2.5 Floor)

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the screening has been postponed to a later date. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Join the Carr Center for Human Rights, the Middle East Initiative at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, and the Women and Public Policy Program for an exclusive screening of Háwar, a moving documentary investigating the genocide against the Yazidi community in Iraq and Syria.

We are delighted to welcome Düzen Tekkal, the German-Yazidi human rights activist and film-maker who produced this documentary, for the screening. Tekkal will introduce Háwar and answer questions from the audience. The audience discussion will be moderated by Dara Kay Cohen, Associate Professor of Public Policy at HKS.

Tekkal and her father traveled back to the Yazidi homelands in northern Iraq in producing the documentary, to investigate the atrocities committed by ISIS against the Yazidis. Upon returning home to Germany, Tekkal founded a nonprofit seeking to support the Yazidi community.
