About the Speaker:

Anna Kinberg Batra is the Leader of the Swedish Opposition, since being elected Party Leader of the Moderate Party in January 2015. Prior to being Party Leader she held the position of Parliamentary Group Leader for the Moderate Party between 2010 and 2015. In this position she fulfilled the role of both Parliamentary Majority Leader and Chief Whip for the four center-right parties that formed the Swedish government between 2006 and 2014. 

In addition, she served as Chairman of the Committee on Finance, and was in charge of passing the government’s budget. During this time she also worked extensively on ensuring the stability of the Swedish financial system in the aftermath of the financial crisis and the following recession.

Ms. Kinberg Batra served as Chairman of the Committee on European Union Affairs between 2007 and 2010. During her time as Chairman Ms. Kinberg Batra was involved in the planning and execution of Sweden’s presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2009.

Ms. Kinberg Batra was a Member of Parliament between 2001 and 2002 and then again after 2006. Previous experiences includes for example being Vice President of Information & Communication at the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and also serving as Political Advisor to former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Bildt, during his time as Prime Minister.

Ms. Kinberg Batra holds a Master of Science in Business from the Stockholm School of Economics and is also the Author of a book on India’s economic development.
