Geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and China are shaping specific industries and increasing many aspects of business risk—as has been made particularly evident in supply chain issues. While the U.S. is attempting to strengthen its capability to reshore semiconductor chip manufacturing by providing federal funding and favorable legislation and policies, the semiconductor industry still largely relies on foreign companies such as the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Similarly, leading suppliers of semiconductors are reevaluating their risk portfolio in geographical, political, and economic terms.

Join us for the second and final session of an in-person, student-only discussion series with Ash Center Senior Research Fellow Jason Hsu and special guest Dr. Lawrence Loh, Senior Vice President at MediaTek, a leading Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company. Edward Cunningham, Director of Ash Center China Programs and of the Asia Energy and Sustainability Initiative at Harvard Kennedy School, will moderate.

During this second session, we'll focus specifically on U.S. efforts to reshore the chipmaking industry, including funding mechanisms, policy analysis, and legislation (CHIPS Act, COMPETE Act). We'll also discuss how to bridge the talent gap as well as dig into geopolitical competition between ths U.S. and China; highlighting the critical role of Taiwan.

Registration is required to attend this event and is limited to Harvard students. Please register using your Harvard email address. Attendance at the first session is not required to attend the second session.

Refreshments will be served.
