This event has been canceled. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Join Miles Rapoport, Senior Practice Fellow in American Democracy; Tova Wang, Ash Center Democracy Fellow; and special guest E.J. Dionne for the final session of a five-part study group which will examine various aspects of the burgeoning democracy reform movement sweeping through states across the country.

E.J. Dionne is a journalist and columnist for the Washington Post; Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution; and Visiting Professor of Religion and Political Culture by joint appointment of the Harvard Kennedy School and the Harvard Divinity School.  He also serves as the Co-Chair, along with Miles Rapoport, of the Universal Voting Working Group, a joint project of the Ash Center and the Brookings Institution, of which Tova Wang participates as a member.

The topic of this final session will be ‘Universal Participation: Voting as a Civil Right and Civic Duty’.  E.J. will discuss the potential advantages and challenges of an election system that moves toward a culture of full civic participation by making voting a requirement of citizenship, as jury service is now.

Lunch will be served.
