Henrique Almeida de Castro
Henrique A. Castro is a Ph.D. candidate in law and political economy at the University of São Paulo, where he is also a member of the Law & Policy Research Group. His dissertation concerns patterns of institutional change in national-level economic policy-making councils. More specifically, it compares the historical trajectories of Brazilian and South African councils, seeking to explain why, despite similar conditions, the latter have been much more stable than the former. This research is supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).
His interests pertain to the legal environments within which political interactions occur, and how they affect the outcome of struggles by constituting power relations. Research topics have included deliberative institutions, participatory democracy, and the political economy of institutional change. His research has been published in journals such as Law & Social Inquiry, The Theory and Practice of Legislation, and the Brazilian Journal of Empirical Legal Studies.
