Herman Bolhaar was Chairman of the Board of Prosecutors General, the national management of the Dutch public prosecution service from 2001-2017. Before that he fulfilled different positions within the public prosecution service: public prosecutor in Breda, acting chief prosecutor in Den Bosch, chief prosecutor in Breda, prosecutor general in The Hague and, before becoming chairman, chief prosecutor of Amsterdam. From 2008 to 2017, he was chairman of the Dutch National Task Force against Human Trafficking.
As Chairman of the Board of Prosecutors General he was responsible for relations with the minister of Security and Justice and with the Bar. His portfolio also encompassed the trafficking of human beings, euthanasia, medical cases, military criminal law and the fight against terrorism. Mr. Bolhaar holds a Master’s in Public Administration, studied Dutch law at the University Nijmegen and management at the Netherlands School for Public Administration, the University of California Berkeley and the Harvard Kennedy School.
