Mariana Ruiz Firmat
Mariana Ruiz Firmat brings 20 years of experience in power-building organizing to her work as the Executive Director and co-founder of Kairos, where she leads a team of strategists who use a cutting-edge and intersectional approach to building democracy and accountability into tech platforms through leadership development, advocacy, and a deep commitment to racial justice.
Her approach is informed by her experiences working with Latinx women farmworkers in California seeking freedom from abusive relationships and working conditions, organizing immigrants from the Carribean working in direct care facilities, and leading legislative, policy, and political campaigns at MoveOn. This history also inspires Mariana to confront white supremecists who use disinformation and misinformation to try to shape culture and policies that have harmful, real world implications for communities of color.
Mariana is on the 2020 investment committee for New Media Ventures and the Movement Cooperatives Impact Lab board, and chairs the Katal Center for Health Equity and Justice board. She was a 2018-19 National Leading from the Inside Out (LIO) Yearlong Fellow of the Rockwood Leadership Institute.
