Technology and Democracy Workshops
Led by the Ash Center’s Technology and Democracy Fellows, the Center hosts a series of hands-on workshops for HKS students aimed at developing skills related to using, managing, and creating technologies—from using technologists’ platforms like GitHub to navigating the pitfalls of large opengov projects.
Innovation Field Lab
The Center’s Innovation Field Lab builds on the nearly 30 years of knowledge on innovation the Center has helped foster. This partnership with several Massachusetts cities helps city leaders and key staff leverage additional ideas and human capital through an embedded educational experience. With dedicated groups of Harvard Kennedy School students working with each city to examine problems in a focused and systematic way, the field study helps provide technological solutions beneficial to the city and its residents.
The Ash Center Summer Fellowships enable students to work with some of the most creative and effective data-driven public officials and policy advisors in the country, not only to learn but to add value by sharing cutting-edge trends and ideas explored at the Kennedy School.
Applied Learning and Student Groups
The Center is committed to providing unique applied learning opportunities with a technology focus. We provide RA positions supporting technology-intensive projects related to faculty research and programming, and welcome student ideas and initiatives. The Center continues to support Tech PIC and other student groups bringing tech-related opportunities and speakers to HKS.
Travel Support for Policy Analysis Exercise and Second Year Policy Analysis
The Ash Center provides travel grants to Harvard Kennedy School students working on their Policy Analysis Exercises (PAE) or Second Year Policy Analyses (SYPA). The Center’s student travel grants help nurture a strong cohort of students interested in the intersection of government, data, and technology.
