Defending Parliament: Responses of Mainstream Parties to Parliamentary Erosion
In-Person Event
Ash Seminar Room 225, Suite 200N, 124 Mount Auburn Street
You’re invited to a Global Challenges to Democracy Seminar Series event featuring Isabela Mares, Arnold Wolfers Professor of Political Science, Yale University.
Historically, extremist parties have engaged in a process of parliamentary disruption, violating the rules of interaction, and slowing down the legislative process. How can democratic parties respond to these strategies and counter parliamentary erosion? During this talk, Mares will discuss her paper on the political reforms adopted in Third Republic France and Weimar Germany which sought to defend parliamentarism.
Light refreshments will be served.
