Tim is the Executive Director of the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. The Ash Center is Harvard’s home for scholars, students, and practitioners dedicated to developing ideas and fostering practices for equal and inclusive, multi-racial and multi-ethnic democracy and self-government.
Tim joined the Ash Center in 2006, previously serving as Executive Director for Programs, Associate Director for Democratic Governance and Students Programs, Research Associate, and other roles. He was a co-author on a 2013 series of three occasional papers from the Ash Center titled Improving the Local Landscape for Innovation and contributing author with Professor Stephen Goldsmith on the book The Power of Social Innovation (Jossey-Bass, 2010).
Before joining the Ash Center, Tim worked in a variety of fields including community relations, youth development, and housing construction. Tim holds a B.S. in public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a M.S. in public affairs from the John W. McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where he studied international relations with a focus on democracy promotion in U.S. foreign policy.
