Join the Ash Center for an online event exploring the current state of democratic decline in the United States and the efforts of pro-democracy advocates to combat it. Steven Levitsky, co-author of How Democracies Die, will discuss the shift toward authoritarianism in America, drawing from his recent article in Foreign Affairs. He will be joined in conversation by Virginia Kase Solomón, President and CEO of Common Cause, who will outline strategies to prevent against democratic backsliding. Archon Fung, Winthrop Laflin McCormack Professor of Citizenship and Self-Government at the Harvard Kennedy School and Director of the Ash Center, will moderate.

About the Series

This event is part of the Ash Center’s “Understanding Disruption” webinar series. These conversations will focus on domains — such as higher education, media, and civil society — to gain insight into the character of these disruptions, what the disruptors are hoping to achieve, what opponents are concerned about, and what the consequences of these disruptions will be.
