Program Involvement
Bailey Flanigan (she/her) received her PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in 2024, advised by Ariel Procaccia. Before that, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from UW Madison in 2017. Between her undergraduate studies and her PhD, Bailey was a research fellow at Yale Economics, did computer science research at Drexel University, and worked as a data scientist in the eastern cape of South Africa. In her research, Bailey studies democratic processes that facilitate direct public participation / representation in policymaking. Using methods from algorithms, social choice, and political science, her work contributes deployable tools for supporting existing processes, as well as computational, empirical, and theoretical frameworks for analyzing their impacts. Outside of research, Bailey enjoys running, cooking, reading and writing fiction, and playing with her dog.
