Reimagining Democracy Program

Mark Seah is the Assistant Director for the Reimagining Democracy Program at the Ash Center, where he supports the design and execution of a portfolio of initiatives that strengthen democratic institutions. In this role, he works closely with scholars, practitioners, and partners to develop and deliver convenings and research projects that advance innovations.

Mark joined the Ash Center in 2019 as a Program Coordinator and later became Program Administrator for the Rajawali Foundation Institute for Asia, supporting a range of administrative and programmatic operations. He then transitioned to the Unseen Legacies of Vietnam War Project (ULVW) and the Global Vietnam Wars Studies Initiative (GVWSI), where he served as Program Manager and later Assistant Director. The ULVW Project is the first systematic review of documents from multiple archives and other sources in the U.S. and Vietnam, designed to facilitate the location and identification of Vietnamese war dead, with materials provided to the U.S. Department of Defense alongside personal ephemera and verifying documentation that support closure and healing for Vietnamese families. The GVWSI documents untold histories and hidden memories from all sides of the war while advancing scholarship on its domestic and global impact.

Mark holds a Master of Music (MM) and a Bachelor of Music (BM) from the Manhattan School of Music. He remains an active classical singer and formerly contracted as the Cantor at the United Nations Parish in New York City. His background in both the arts and higher education informs his approach to program design and collaboration.
