Gilles Mentre

Gilles Mentré is a philosopher and writer whose research focuses on direct democracy and internet voting. He teaches at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and at the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Gilles served as a French civil servant and diplomat for ten years, notably as an adviser to the President of France and to several ministers, including the Ministers of Finance and the Environment.

He earned a PhD in philosophy from University of Paris in 2025, under the co-supervision of Michael Sandel (Harvard University) and Eric Marquer (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne). He holds an MPA from Ecole nationale d’administration (2002) and an MSc. from Ecole Polytechnique (1999).

Alongside his academic work, Gilles is the co-founder of Electis, an open-source internet voting platform.
